Family At-Home Mission Activity
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick brings the healing touch of Jesus into our lives. In this sacrament, we pray that the sick person be healed in body and soul. Sometimes a physical healing does take place, if it is God’s will, but not always. However, the Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit, always offers spiritual healing and forgiveness, with or without the physical healing, in the Anointing of the Sick.
FAMILY GUIDE WK. 2 GOD’S SAVING LOVE FOR US: LITURGY AND THE SEVEN SACRAMENTS TOPIC: THE SACRAMENTS OF HEALING: ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Here is the At-Home Lesson pdf, but it's all here on this page too.
The Healing of Many People Matthew 15:29-31
At that time: Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain and sat down there. Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them. The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.
Step 1: As a family, together, watch the video above: • Sacraments 101: Anointing of the Sick 6:28 min
Step 2: Make a list of people who need prayers for healing, both spiritual and physical.
Step 3: Gather as a family around your home altar and place your healing hands craft upon it.
Step 4: Pray the following prayer together:
Lord Jesus Christ, Savior and consoler of our weakness,
who delivered Peter’s mother-in-law and the ruler’s son from a high fever;
who restored strength to the paralytic, cleansed the lepers, healed the centurion’s servant;
who saved the woman suffering from hemorrhage, raised up the man lying helpless on his pallet at the pool of Bethsaida, went about the towns and villages healing all kinds of ailments …
may the sick, (Pause to say the names of who need prayer) … be freed from their illness and restored in body and mind, and may rightly see fit to praise your power until the end of their days; You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Spiritual & Corporal Works of Mercy – Comforting the Afflicted (or Sorrowful)
and Visiting the Sick
Our Lord Jesus cares for us in our whole person, body and soul. This is one reason why the Sacraments of Healing—Penance & Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick—provide grace, forgiveness, and help for both spiritual and physical ailments. Just as the Lord directs His mercy and grace to the healing and salvation of both body and soul, we are called to imitate His mercy and love and care for our family members and neighbors in the same way, both body and soul. The spiritual and corporal works of mercy are guideposts for us in becoming more and more configured to Christ, our Divine Physician and merciful Savior (see CCC, no. 2447). In particular, we can see in the spiritual work of mercy, comforting the afflicted (or sorrowful), and in the corporal work of mercy, visiting the sick, the call to be close to those who are suffering and to pray and care for them. As Jesus is for us, may we be the same for those He entrusts to us.
Lord Jesus, Divine Physician, help us trust in You and share your merciful and healing love with all whom we encounter!
An Invitation If you know of any baptized adults (or you yourself) who haven’t received the Sacrament of Confirmation yet, invite them to speak to your pastor, PCL/DRE, or coordinator!
