Family Field Trip and Nov YFF Info

We had a great November Youth night with 30 kids in attendance. If your kids missed it or if you parents want to know more of what we did, here you go! Field trip info is towards the end.


We had 3 mini lessons, 15 minutes long for each group, and talked a bit about our upcoming Family Field Trip to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine Basilica. Of course we always begin and end with prayer and especially thought of Veterans. Grade groups tonight were K-4, 5-7 and 8-10.

Sacrament of Reconciliation Info/review for all 3 age groups with Marlene in the Downstairs classroom to use TV.

Younger kids watched a clip from the “Blessed” DVD reconciliation program we are using from Matthew Kelly

Gospel Questions of the Week all age groups with Maureen in Church

Matthew 25: 1-13 Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids: always be prepared for you never know when you will meet Jesus.

What are some surprising ways in which you meet Christ in your daily life?

What kind of people, do we believe, go to heaven?

What are some things we can do to be like those people and prepare ourselves to meet God?

“This Little Light of Mine” song for the younger ones and “Jesus is coming soon and I’m going to meet him by…”

Youth Christian songs for the K-4th group only, with Sherry S in the Upstairs School classroom.

Diwali: The Festival of Lights

for Hindu and other cultures for the 2 older age groups only, with Father George.

The diocese recommends talking about the festival of Diwali, as part of our learning standard on Inter-Religious Dialogue.

They got to try some interesting treats from India.

Father also talked about Advent wreaths & candles and showed Our Lady of Fatima Shrine lighted up for advent Festival of Lights.

Take home packet included the following & extras are available in each curch:

“5 Fingers of Prayer” handout and descriptions to try at home with the kids

Advent calendars with doors to open for each day and an advent poster Talk about advent at home using your own wreath and these calendars. (Advent Starts Nov 29th)

5pm attend mass together, (hopefully we will still be able to so this, safely, socially distanced of course) as our monthly Family Faith Formation worship gathering.


Dinner on your own in the Lewiston/Youngstown area. Fatima Shrine cafeteria is closed Sundays.
