Last 3 Glorious Mysteries

Last session we continued to talk about the Glorious Mysteries and how the Apostles must have felt after Jesus ascended into heaven. How they needed more strength and courage from the Holy Spirit, and support and prayers from Mother Mary in order to go and make disciples of all nations. Here are some videos on these mysteries from the week 2 family guide.

Did You Know?

Why was Mary assumed body and soul into Heaven? The Assumption of our Blessed Mother Mary body and soul into Heaven is a truth of our faith. It is a beautiful and fitting truth for many reasons that will continue to be explored and understood more fully. Mary, by a special and singular grace, was preserved from the stain of Original Sin from her conception (the Immaculate Conception) and also remained free of personal sin for her entire life through God’s grace by virtue of her Son Jesus’ redeeming work. One of the consequences of Original Sin was death and the corruption of our bodies. Since Mary was without sin, it was fitting that God assumed Mary body and soul at the end of her earthly life, preserving her body from any corruption. Also, as the special vessel for God and ark of the New Covenant, Mary is the Theotokos or God-bearer—the Mother of God—who remained faithfully united to her Son Jesus and perfectly obedient to the Father’s will to the very end. It is very fitting that Jesus would raise His Mother, body and soul, at the end of her life to perfect and bring to fulfillment her being conformed to Him, “the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death” (CCC, no. 966), and to exalt her as Queen of creation, praying and interceding for all of us. In a beautiful way that fills us with great hope, Mary’s Assumption “is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians” (CCC, no. 966). Can you think of other reasons why it was fitting for the Lord to assume our Blessed Mother body and soul into Heaven? (E.g., think of Mary as “full of grace” and see CCC, nos. 721-726 to learn more about Mary and the Holy Spirit’s work with, in, and through her.)

The Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15. Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us!
