Nov: Luminous Mysteries and Grandparents

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

This month we are learning about the first and second Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the Wedding at Cana.

Your Family At-Home Mission is to reach out to a grandparent or elder adult to ask them about the childhood of Jesus and their own faith. Fill out the form handed out at the last session Nov 5th or via the attachment below on and bring it back next session, November 19th to share with us.

Reminder: On the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 26th we are attending 10 am Mass together in Sheldon. A few years ago, we started a tradition of taking a field trip of faith together on the 1st Sunday of Advent. We went to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine and then Our Lady of Victory Basilica. This year we decided, since our larger parish family now includes 4 other parishes and 8 other worship sites, that we will go to the 10 am Mass at St. John Neuman's St. Cecelia worship site in Sheldon at the corner of Centerline and North Sheldon Road. It happens to be the 175th anniversary year of their beautiful stone church. This will be like a flash mob Mass attendance, (except they know we are coming). We have been invited to attend their faith formation pot luck lunch after Mass in Weber Hall to meet other families in our new Fields of Grace Family of Parishes. They have plenty of room in both the church and hall for all of us. You are not required to bring a dish to pass.

Optional activities:

Watch the videos below:

This one is great video for tweens/teens and adults! (6min 35 sec)

For younger children: Saint John Paul II, the Life of a Holy Pope (notice the subtitles are in Polish, I think !) (4min 43sec)

Lastly, gather around your home altar/ prayer space, light your Jesus Is Our Light candle, and pray a decade of the Rosary meditating on the First Luminous Mystery.

Did you know that the Rosary was Saint John Paul II’s favorite prayer?

He prayed it every day with his father when he was a boy and was part of a Rosary prayer group in Poland later as a young man. He loved it because while it is a simple prayer to say, one can really think and meditate on what it was like to be there when Jesus walked on the earth.

THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES Mary as intercessor: The Gospel passage of the Wedding at Cana (Jn 2:1-12) reveals how Mary prays and intercedes not only for the needs of the wedding couple and feast but for all of us. On the Cross, Jesus gives Mary to all of us as our Mother. This is why we can go to her and ask for her prayers and intercession even now. Jesus wants us to do that. To learn more, read CCC, no. 2618 and pray with the Gospel passage.
