Prepare for Holy Week and Divine Mercy Sunday

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

FAMILY AT-HOME MISSION ACTIVITY

Watch some Holy Week Videos, Come to some or all of the Triduum services, and Learn about Saint Faustina and The History of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. We will be praying the Chaplet together at our next gathering on Divine Mercy Sunday.

We saw at our last gathering that God made a covenant with the Israelites, promising that they would be His special chosen people, and in return the Israelites agreed to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. When Moses received the Ten Commandments, the Israelites agreed to keep all God’s laws and ordinances. Then the covenant was formally sealed with a sacrificial offering. This covenant from Exodus 24: 3 – 8 is a clue pointing to the New Testament, foreshadowing Jesus’ words at the last supper that we hear each week at Mass. Then God gave the people instructions to build a special Ark that would hold and protect the stone tablets called the Ark of the Covenant. This was kept in a special ritual tent called the tabernacle while they were traveling through the desert. This is where God would meet with Moses. You can see this is where we get the idea for the modern tabernacle in the church. Then we briefly reflected on another clue that points to the New Testament, thinking about why Mary is called the Ark of the New Covenant and also why she is called the Holy Tabernacle. The main reason of course is that Mary held and carried Jesus within her womb. Jesus Himself is the fulfillment of the New Covenant. And since the holy tabernacles in our churches hold the Blessed Sacrament – Jesus in the Eucharist – Mary can be compared to a living and Holy Tabernacle when she carried Jesus in her womb.

Your Family At-Home Mission is to watch Holy Week videos and familiarize your family with The Divine Mercy Chaplet and St. Faustina, to whom the Chaplet is attributed.

Learn about this devotion so that your family can join together with us as we pray the chaplet together at our next gathering April 16th, which happens to be Divine Mercy Sunday.
