Sacraments & Service

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

"You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased."

Luke 3:22.

Happy New Year! On January 9th, 2022 we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord and a return to ordinary time in the liturgical year. Our youth participated in the 11am mass. This gospel reading helped begin our lesson last week on the Seven Sacraments, as we continue to follow the liturgical calendar and Sunday gospels in our faith formation program.

We focused on the signs and symbols of the Seven Sacraments and the older youth also learned a bit about vocations in our faith.

We used the following Power Point to introduce the sacraments, with the young ones talking about the pictures, and the 5th - 7th going more in depth. The 8th - 11th did an activity called Sacrament Trust Walk in church and have a homework sheet to fill out called Sacred Scavenger Hunt. They can use the PPT attached below if they need help remembering the symbols and what they mean. Also posted below is a link for "The Family Zone" Newsletter for The Baptism of the Lord", with resources for every age to learn something new.

The Confirmation classes start Jan 9th as well, and we wish those students well and offer our prayers for them as they embark on this next step in their faith journey.

Later this month we are starting a service project an ask now for your input as to what could be done for the community. A little book library like the ones popping up all over? A flash mob snow shoveling of folks' sidewalks? Something to beautify the neighborhood? An event for local kids to enjoy? A project for Gateway Home? What should we do? What ideas do you have? Time to brainstorm! We prefer to help fulfill an interest you or the youth already have or a need in the community you know needs addressing. It could be in Attica, Varysburg, or both.
