Works of Mercy link, Mission before 12/11

Updated: Dec 1, 2022

We are combining all of December’s Lesson on The Fall and The Promise/ Redemption into one meeting, since our second December gathering will be for the Living Nativity on the 17th. So your mission includes something new we will talk more about then. Your Family At-Home Mission is to look up the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and decide which go with your Advent activities, and to interview a grandparent or senior adult for your next table sharing. Be ready to tell about both of these experiences at Week 3’s gathering of families December 11th at our St. Joseph's site in Varysburg.

1. Read the USCCB explanations about Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy on USCCB:

Step 2: After learning about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, together decide which Works of Mercy apply to the things your family does or will do this Advent. Works of Mercy give us opportunities to love one another with God’s love, and then to share that love by serving our neighbors. Works of Mercy are filled with Sacrificial Love! We will be learning more about that in December. Start your Messiah in the Manger December 1st - many of these activities involve Works of Mercy!

Step 3: Interview a grandparent(s) or senior adult(s) in your family/ community and ask them about their favorite memories of when they were growing up. Ask: What sacrifices did your family make for one another out of love? When you had your own children, what acts of kindness or sacrifices did your family members do for one another? How do you show love to family or friends now? Sacrificial Love!

Step 4: Pray together! Choose a time for your family to gather around your family’s Advent Wreath, home altar or prayer corner, and practice the Spiritual Works of Mercy by praying together for others and for one another.

Step 5: Get ready to share about your Family Advent works of mercy and Senior Sharing at the December gathering of families on the 11th.

In case you missed last session, Here is the ppt from 11/27/22 on The Creation Story. Lesson 3 (modified from Families Forming Disciples, Arch Diocese of Atlanta)
